Artist CV
Lara Gough is a Northern NSW–born transdisciplinary artist whose practice centres on reanimating the mundane, dead, or overlooked through evocative still life painting. With a particular focus on fish and flowers, her works draw on memory, dreams, and emotional resonance to explore cycles of life and death, beauty and decay.
Lara’s paintings unfold slowly over time, reflecting her belief that years spent with a work imprint themselves onto its surface—“like the rings of a tree.” This is echoed in her sustainable flower garden, Poppyhill, which provides organic inspiration and materials for her painterly investigations. Her process is deeply sensory, often recalling scents, textures, and emotional registers embedded in dreams and memory. Through delicate gesture and mark-making, she captures not only what is seen, but what is felt.
